PornHub Credit Card Payments: Why You Can’t Use Them

BACK TO HOME

Wanna use your card to pay for PornHub Premium? Well, too bad!

I’ve had a discount code for PornHub Premium for the last few years and let me tell you: this thing has been incredibly popular. Thousands of people have utilized Mr. Porn Geek’s deal to save themselves a bunch of cash and to try out what PornHub Premium has to offer – I’ve also written a pretty decent review of PornHub because it’s one of the best in slot locations if you want to jerk off to great XXX videos.

You may have noticed recently that if you want to sign up to PH Premium, you can’t do it using a credit card. Right now, all that they’re accepting is cryptocurrency, and for a number of people, that’s just not going to cut it. The good news is that you can pay with a bunch of different cryptos, including Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero, XRP, Tron and Verge to name but a few. There’s also a ‘Binance’ option, which I’m guessing means that any crypto in Binance can be used. A pretty sweet setup, but I’m a cryptocurrency nerd, so of course I’m going to say that!

If you’re more of a traditional card guy, well, there are going to be issues. Last week, a federal judge in the US rejected a motion for dismissal in a tricky legal case involving PornHub and Visa. I won’t go into the details, but essentially, it relates to an illegal video that was uploaded to the platform and not removed nearly as quickly as it ought to have been (or so the case alleges). Although the whole thing is a bit of a mess, the fallout is that PornHub cannot accept card payments right now. Visa and Mastercard have both been removed from the service, and you’re forced to use crypto if you want to get anywhere. So, what does all this mean?

For me, PornHub has always been walking a bit of a tightrope. As one of the biggest adult sites out there – it’s constantly under pressure to behave. Quite a while ago, they made a bunch of changes to focus on removing content that wasn’t verified, and I think they knew that sooner or later, the whole “upload any porn you want” method of content distribution was a ticking time bomb. What I do think is that this is a bit of a selling point for cryptocurrency as a way to do things online though. See, regardless of what you think about the case – you ought to be able to decide what businesses you do and don’t interact with. If Visa and Mastercard can cut you off for one reason or another – that’s not great. Cryptocurrency is there to step in and offer a way for them to continue to make money, and of course, get people to sign up for your premium service.

Will we see credit card payments return to PornHub Premium in the future? Chances are pretty slim that it’ll happen any time soon. Thankfully, other MindGeek assets like Brazzers and Reality Kings are unscathed – for now. If those places got hit with the ban stick – well, there would be some serious reshuffling in the adult entertainment space, that’s for damn sure!
